Why is oil a finite energy resource?

0

Being pedantic it would be true to say that existing known reserves of oil are a finite resource, however oil is constantly being produced but for it to reach a state where we can use it takes millions of years. Therefore at our current rate of consumption we will use all our current available known resources. Another point to remember is that as oil becomes increasingly scarce so its value will increase exponentially, meaning that its use will be reserved for essential products such as medicines. Secondly as it becomes more scarce and valuable, so it will become increasingly viable to explore for oil in even more severe environments than is currently the case.
