Why is now the time for an Eddie Robinson biography?
If you look at what is happening in America, things have changed a lot. If you look at colleges, the end of segregation really changed the place and the role and the prominence of black college athletics. Black colleges still exist, but I like to point out to people that Mark Ingram who won the Heisman Trophy (last season) wouldn’t have even been able to get into Alabama back in the early 60s. He probably would have played for Eddie Robinson. That has all changed now so there will never be another Eddie Robinson. That heyday is gone so I think it is important that it be preserved and it hadn’t been. I think that is the big thing, we are preserving an era that has gone forever. The Martin Luther King quote is provocative because Robinson reacted differently to the 1960s. Was that a concern?
