Why is Noam Chomsky considered the most important intellectual person alive?
While I am not sure why Noam Chomsky has been voted the most intellectual person alive, the fact remains that his contribution to linguistics is ar reaching and he has been famously described as a hero of Homeric proportions and easily one of finest minds in america. There just too many innovations he has made in lingustics but he famous for his work on syntax, called generative grammer and the other is popularly called the Chomsky hierarchy, which is another work on grammer. His ideas have had a very strong impact on researchers working on acquisition of languages in children. Also his work has had a lot of influence over cognitive psychology.
