Why is Nevada Called the Silver State?
Nevada is called the silver state because silver mining was one of the major industries when it was admitted into the union in 1864. Another nickname for the state is the Battle Born State due to it being admitted during the Civil War. It is said that one of the primary reasons it became a state when it did was due the north wanting to make sure to secure the silver resources which helped finance the war.
