Why is networking with Alums so important?
Take the time to speak with alums: Although extremely overdone, it is important to take the time to network with alums of the companies you are interested in applying to. One may argue whether it actually helps in getting your foot in the door of an interview. However, it very much helps each student deciding whether to apply to a particular company in the first place. If you do not know much about a company/position, contacting an Alum is an excellent way to determine whether you are interested in the first place. Although getting a job, any job, might seem palatable, this will only hurt you if you have to switch jobs later after you have joined a company.
