Why is Natrel Calcium called milk beverage?
Canadian food labeling laws dictate how food and beverages are described on product packaging in Canada. Natrel Calcium milk beverage has this name because this milk has been changed slightly from its original state with the addition of milk ingredients rich in clacium. Since we enriched this milk with calcium, the law required us to change the name from “milk” to “milk beverage”. The same rule also applies to other drinks we enjoy, like apple juice, since the addition of sugar or other fruit juices will change “apple juice” to “apple cocktail” or “apple punch”. These laws are in place to keep consumers protected from false advertising claims as well as to embrace the ongoing changes in food research and technology.
