Why is my power steering fluid leeking?

0

Power steering fluid leaks are most commonly caused by either a damaged or worn hose or faulty seals and/or bearings. Understand that during operation, one of the power steering hoses may be containing quite a bit of hydraulic pressure, and even a very small leak can result in quite a bit of fluid. If a power steering pump bearing is worn it can cause excessive strain on the seal and the pump shaft seal will fail. If the rack & pinion or steering gear (whichever your vehicle uses) shaft is worn or even if the seal is just old and tired, you can have quite a bit of leakage at the steering gear or rack. In any case, mechanical things all fail eventually, and your car is certainly a mechanical thing.
