Why is my laptop processor is making loud noise?

A processor fan (or the fan used to cool your system) would make consistent noise, so too would the spinning of the hard drive; hard drive noise from the moving of the heads is more of a scratching or grunting maybe even a ticking… the only occasional whirring noise would be the CD/DVD drive, these won’t normally spin if they are ejected or they don’t have a disc in them. Try ejecting the drive tray (so it’s just barely open) and see if the whirring stops.
