Why is my house in a higher Council Tax Valuation band than my neighbours?
All properties were valued before the start of Council Tax and the effective date was 1st April 1991. After valuation the properties were put in one of 8 bands. Bands are based on the saleable value of the property on 1st April 1991 and not its current value. Some apparently similar properties may differ in band. The most likely reason is when the valuations made on each property border two bands. In order to appeal against your banding you need to contact the Valuation Office. Please use the link below for more information. Please note, that the charge remains due and payable whilst an appeal is ongoing, and therefore you must carry on paying your original bill to avoid any recovery action.
