Why is my horse getting so hott off his grain?
It seems you are flushing him with tons of carbs. Carbs aren’t bad, but what you listed are a whole lot of simple sugars and not enough fat. You are feeding him large amounts of protein and sugars that are easier to break down, therefore his body is being put in overdrive from the bursts of energy he is receiving. I’d switch to a mixed hay and cut out the extra bran, bloom, and cut down to only a couple of ounces of oil. If your horse is a hard keeper try a weight supplement, such as weight builder, Focus WT, Source, or Amplify. A horse needs a friendly balance of simple sugars, and harder carbs and proteins. Simple sugars are easier to break down but do not pack on weight, add the fat and cut down the carbs. A good pelleted feed is SafeChoice or Patriot. It is packed with extra minerals and vitamins and good fats with less simple sugars.
