Why is my Guman Thong is a bottle of oil?
You will probably have noticed that some Guman Thong are contained within small vials of oil. It is thought that the oil will both preserve the wood and provide the necessary life sustenance. If the oil evaporates, then the power of the Guman thong will diminish. This is not just any oil, but well recited sandalwood or bulb plant oil. It is also common practice for the monk to add a small takrut or salika roll to the oil, thought to intensify the power. Salika birds are known for there beautiful voices and historically their tongues were used in amulets, known as ‘lin Or’ (golden tongue amulets), bringing additional charm to the owner. Often the owners of this type of Guman Thong will smear a small quantity of the oil on their forehead to increase charm and attractiveness.
