Why is my first-year Benchmark score for Enriching Educational Experiences much lower in my 2004 and 2005 report than in previous years reports?
The changes made to the 2004 and 2005 NSSE Survey’s enriching Items (survey question 7) explain much of this difference. Students who in 2001-2003 NSSE survey administrations would have answered “yes” to these items may now be answering “plan to do” (which is coded separately from “done”) on the 2004 and 2005 survey administrations as most first-year students are unlikely to have participated in study abroad programs, internships, research with faculty, or culminating senior experiences in their first-year. This score is a more accurate representation of what students at your school have actually done.
