Why is my console login prompt garbled or in some strange alphabet after upgrading to 4.1.3?
The problem is /etc/ttytab, with 4.1.3, the console is now able to display 8 bits characters and getty must take this into account. The solution is easy, replace your console entry in /etc/ttytab by the following, the important part is ‘cons8’: console “/usr/etc/getty cons8” sun on local secure Also, if you did an upgrade(instead of a full install) you may need to add the following to your /etc/gettytab. # This is a new entry to internationalize the console. It needs to be # 8 bit clean so that ISO 8859 characters can be displayed without # the window system.
