WHY IS MY COMMERCIAL PREPAID CARD SOMETIMES DECLINED AT A RESTAURANT WHEN I HAVE ENOUGH REMAINING CARD VALUE TO PAY THE FOOD PURCHASE?
• The usual cause of this problem is that restaurants program their card terminals to add an “up-charge” of 10% to 25% to the amount of your food purchase at the time of authorization to cover any anticipated gratuity (this may also occur at hotels to cover additional hotel charges). You will not be charged this amount if you choose to pay a different gratuity or pay the gratuity with cash. Your Commercial Prepaid Card will be decreased only by the amount on your signed receipt. Since many restaurants program their terminals to include this up-charge, the amount the restaurant has attempted to authorize may exceed your available card balance and the purchase may be declined. To avoid this problem, make sure that the amount of the restaurant food purchase (or hotel bill), less any gratuity, is not more that 75% of the available Commercial Prepaid Card balance. If the available card balance is not sufficient for the restaurant purchase, simply use your card elsewhere at any retail mercha
