Why is my betta fish swimming at the top of his tank?
That’s perfectly normal. A betta fish is a labyrinth fish, meaning they breathe air. The Anabantoidei is a suborder of perciform ray-finned freshwater fishes distinguished by their possession of a lung-like labyrinth organ, which enables them to breathe air. The fishes in the Anabantoidei suborder are known as anabantoids or labyrinth fishes. Some labyrinth fishes are important food fish and many others, such as the Siamese fighting fish (Betta Fish) and paradise fish, are popular as aquarium fishes. (And in the future, do regular water changes at 25% or less – you could cause harm to your fish otherwise.) Also, bettas do better in filtered tanks with heaters – they are tropical fish and like temperatures from 78-82 degrees. While yes, they can survive in fish bowls, they thrive in well-filtered, heated tanks. You will see a world of difference in your betta if you invest in a decent tank with a heater and filter.
