Why is Muslim unemployment 3-4½ times higher than the UK average?
One factor must be that there are large populations of Muslims in northern towns in Yorkshire and Lancashire which have high unemployment rates. I would guess that a more important factor is that Pakistani and Bangladeshi students under-perform in the education system, especially in comparison to other Asian groups such as Indian Hindus. The reason for this is probably because of the demographics of the groups which emigrated from the subcontinent in the post war period. The Indian Hindu groups were more middle class (merchant caste) and educated on their arrival. As we know, middle class educated people tend to value education for their children. The Indian Hindus have achieved a high level of social mobility because of this value of education.
