Why is Middletown ranked above Urbana in the FredCo girls lacrosse rankings?
If the two schedules are compared, it is obvious that Urbana does support the tougher schedule, and Middletown has a very weak schedule because of their MVAL division. I tend to use Laxpower.com as a frame of reference, but the rankings there are based on a computer formula, which considers a team’s record, schedule and opponents. Very little else on the surface is taken into consideration, things like injuries and upperclassmen. Truthfully, and you can ask my sports collegues, I’ve never been a big fan of published rankings. They’re nothing but fodder, and give coaches, players and fans something else to worry about, and talk about. Unless there’s some kind of system that can watch every goal of every game involving every team, I doubt there’s a completely fair way to create accurate rankings.
