Why is methanol better for the economy and the environment than gasoline?

A. Many studies have shown that combustion of methanol/gasoline blends produce less exhaust emissions than pure gasoline including carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon particulates, and NOx emissions. Methanol can be manufactured domestically from renewable resources, therefore decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, and can be a true carbon neutral fuel. Methanol can also be integrated into our current gasoline infrastructure with little or no modifications to pipeline systems or filling stations.
