Why is Manitoba changing its licence system now?
• A combination of factors made this the right time to move to this new system. • First, there was a fairly urgent need to replace the system for producing photo cards that served Manitoba well for many years. It became obsolete and is no longer supported by its manufacturer. • We had the opportunity to replace the existing system quickly and cost-effectively through an agreement with Saskatchewan Government Insurance. By working with SGI, we can produce photo cards for both provinces from one facility, thereby reducing costs for both provinces while adding to the quality of the Manitoba licence. • In addition, the new system is a building block toward other improvements that are made possible by the merger of driver and vehicle licensing into Manitoba Public Insurance.
