Why is liverpool, england portrayed in such a bad way?
It’s a complete mystery to me, but if you look at Liverpool’s reputation within the UK and outside of the UK it could hardly be more different. Liverpool has problems and most of them are down too lack of investment, containerisation of the port etc, but also has a thriving arts scene. It always seems that whenever there is a scumbag or scally to be portrayed on TV, there is always a good Liverpool actor to play it. The commander on ITV this week did the same. This builds into a stereotype; if scousers are always portrayed as thieves on TV the TV viewing public think that all scousers are thieves. Then thieving jokes always use a scouser as the punch line, and the ironic thing is that they are told in places with much higher crime rates than Liverpool. The image of the Liverpool music scene abroad can’t be underestimated, Liverpool is regarded outside of the UK as a very desirable place and you only have to go into the city centre to see the hoards of tourists from all over the world w
