Why is Lip training effective for Facial Nerve paralysis (Bells palsy)?
The function of our facial mimetic muscles are controlled by the facial nerves. The muscles cannot move if the nerves are paralysed. However, appropriate stimulation given to the paralysed muscles can revive the nerve functions although it takes time. The nerves are re-activated by giving stimulations to the muscles. The function of the nerve will also make the muscles function better resulting in a good cycle. As majority of the mimetic muscles gather around the orbicular muscles which form the shape of the lips, most mimetic muscles are stimulated at the same time when this area is stimulated.
