Why is Lightning Different Colors?
Lightning does not come in different colors. What is different is the distance the lightning is to you, the type of atmosphere through which it has to travel and any particulate that may also be in the air. If a bolt strike right next to you, you will see a brilliant white light. If it is a long ways away it will look more bluish. Much like the sun or moon at the horizon, the color you see depends on what colors are scattered by the atmosphere between you and the source of light.
