Why is junk email called spam?
Use of the term “spam” was adopted as a result of the Monty Python skit in which our SPAM meat product was featured. In this skit, a group of Vikings sang a chorus of “spam, spam, spam . . . ” in an increasing crescendo, drowning out other conversation. Hence, the analogy applied because UCE was drowning out normal discourse on the Internet.
Spam originated from the movie “Monty Python adn the quest for the holy grail”. I’m not quite sure I remember, but there may have been a fictious creature that kept repeating spam spam spam. Because of the movie’s popularity with some internet users, some people who go on message boards and keep “spamming” the word Spam by copy and pasting numerous instances of it just to annoy readers of the board. spam later was translated to be meaningless garbage-> like junk e-mails.
