Why is Jackson Health System going smoke-free?
We are committed to promoting the health, well being and safety of the staff, students, faculty, patients, and visitors to our campus. Tobacco smoke is a proven health and safety hazard both to smokers and to non-smokers who are involuntarily exposed to the serious health risks of second hand smoke. Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States and tobacco use is inconsistent with our healthcare mission. Jackson Health System has a longstanding commitment to serving our patients and improving health in our communities. We feel it’s important to promote an environment that supports wellness and disease prevention as well as medical treatment. We also have a commitment to providing our staff and students with a healthy work and learning environment. We now call on our staff and customers to model health-promoting behaviors while on our properties.
