Why is it that women seem to go to counsellors more readily than men? Why are women usually the ones to make contact when it comes to getting couple therapy?
(A). It seems to be a cultural thing. In our society women are generally more comfortable talking about their feelings than men. Since that’s mainly what therapy involves women go to therapy more often and with fewer hangups. On the issue of women being the ones who drag husbands and partners to marriage counselling again this seems to be a cultural expectation. Women are still seen as the ones who have the primary responsibility for maintaining relationships and so they are the ones who initiate marital therapy.
