Detectives from Operation Minstead – who are investigating four rapes and 24 sexual assaults of elderly people – are investigating because of the similarities to crimes committed by a man dubbed the Night Stalker. The latest victims are aged 91 and 93 and live just 400 yards apart in Shirley, near Croydon in South East London. Since 1990 The Night Stalker has struck repeatedly across a wide area including Coulsdon, Warlingham and also Shirley. Both houses were broken into on Thursday and were taped off while forensic officers in white boiler suits examined the scene. Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton, from the Operation Minstead team, said: “We are keeping an open mind on both incidents at this stage. “Both occupiers were disturbed in the middle of the night by an intruder in their house.
