The relationship between each possible standard score and the corresponding percentile ranks is shown in Table 3a on page 176 and also illustrated on page 84 of the manual. Here it can be seen that a standard score of 5 corresponds directly with the 5th percentile, one of our suggested cut off points. However, since there is no direct correspondence between our other suggested cut off, the 15th percentile and an equivalent standard score, we have taken the 16th percentile point as the upper end of the ‘amber’ range, equivalent to a standard score of 7.
