Human beings who cannot kill other animals will have been removed by evolution due to starving. The relatively short duration of civilisation has not been long enough to remove the capacity to kill, if it ever could. These days we don’t go hungry for long enough for it to be an issue. But I think that if you were starving and it was you or that chicken, the feathers would be flying in no time. Modern morality has made many of us squeamish about this very natural thing, but this is the effect of upbringing, it does not mean our inherent/biological mental capabilities have evolved.
