English made Royal Enfield were the large engine bikes- but manufacture stopped for complete bikes in England about mid 1970 or 1980. Engines- as in the 750- were made or were available until about 1990. Indian manufacture was a Army contract for the 350 and 500 cc Bullet singles- English tooling purchased and full manufacturing drawings provided as a license limited market manufacturer in late 1950s . A 500cc twin limit production, 250 single was made for civilian market after Army contract filled and other models also then made available for Indian domestic market- this about 1970s. 1990s when Indian government eased business laws meant some of the Indian made Enfield available for foreign sales legally. American market was a bit confused legally, toward end of English Enfield production Clymer-the owner of Indian Motorcycle trademark in US- had a marketing agreement with Enfield to sell 750 in US as ‘Indian-Enfield” as a continuation of 1950s joint marketing agreement from original
