Why is it that it is so tough to admits one own mistakes?
It is said that “to err is human, to forgive divine” Most of us are not willing to admit our mistakes due to different reasons… The first and foremost is the fear of punishment…we are from a society which does not accept mistakes…from childhood, we are taught to avoid mistakes and get marked down in tests for making mistakes…if “to err is human” then surely we are expected to be super-human…so fear of punishment is one of the main reasons… The second reason would be, as you rightly put it – our own ego…since we are told that the more mistakes we make, the less successful we will be from our childhood, it is devastating to the ego to be perceived as a candidate for failure!!! In a culture where mistakes are frowned upon, we strive to be perfect and error-free to bolster our own ego… The third reason is lack of acceptance…we all like to pretend to be perfect in all aspects of our personality and imagine that people will accept us more that way…unfortunately we fail to
