Why is it that every parent of a badly behaved child, tihinks they have ADHD?
the thing is, while children with ADHD are more likely to behave badly – because impulsiveness and a high energy level do lead to trouble, lol it also depends on lots of other things, you get very well behaved children with ADHD, very badly behaved children with ADHD and children somewhere in the middle – just like children without ADHD I think there are many parents that are all too happy to use ADHD as a get out clause for their unruly children, which unfortunately makes it even harder for good parents and children struggling with a condition that is very hard to live with
I mostly agree with you. People will try to find excuses for their children’s lack of achievement and/or disturbing behaviour in the classroom. However, having had my son diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia and Tourette’s, even if mildly, about 10 years ago, when he was 16, I really was upset at the lack of help we received from the school. They refused to accept he had any form of disability and refused any mitigating circumstances for certain aspects and they certainly did not offer much help. The problem runs in the family, and as ADHD, dyslexia and Tourette’s are genetically transferred, it has to be acepted as a “disability”. The problem is how to work out what is what. My son has gone from strength to strength. He has a reasonably good job which could build into a good career. He is valued for his input and is learning a lot in business terms. He also got married and his wife is excellent at picking up where he is not too good at. So there is always hope. It’s just sad that people imme
