Why is it necessary to reconstruct Marquette and 2nd Avenues?

0

In addition to the change in the width of the street (it is being narrowed to provide wider sidewalks), the streets are in need of repair. Most blocks on MARQ2 were last rebuilt or renovated before 1980 and fall into the “fair” to “poor” condition category. The exceptions are 11th Street to 10th Street, on both 2nd and Marquette Avenues, which were reconstructed in 1992 and are in “good” condition. The project also provides a good opportunity to replace aging infrastructure. The 130-year-old, 6-inch water main on Marquette will be upgraded to a new 12 inch main. New hydrants and valves will also be constructed.
