Why is it important to send strollers, shoes and outdoor clothing?
Vitamin D is manufactured in the body and is essential for the formation and growth of bones, teeth and for the utilization of calcium and phosphorus in the body. Vitamin D is often called “the sunshine vitamin” because of the abundance supplied by the sun through its action on the skin. Therefore, the person who gets enough sunshine each day (at least 30 minutes) receives sufficient amounts of Vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets in children. Rickets is most likely to occur during periods of rapid growth when high levels of calcium and phosphate are demanded. Rickets is usually seen in young children 6 – 24 months old and is uncommon in newborns.
