As a cop I didn’t know I was corrupt. <-- Far from the fact. People who respond negatively toward police usually had an issue with them, they were caught doing something that they weren't supposed to do, watched someone they know get hauled away for something they "didn't do", or are unable to think for themselves and believe everything the media says about police. Getting to the question, a diversified police force is important to better represent the people that are being policed. ie: a black female being pulled over by a black female cop will be more comfortable than being pulled over by a white male cop. As far as barriers, the public's mind set that we are horrible and corrupt people. We have to deal with the worst people out there, run toward the danger when instinct says run away.
