Why is it important that insect sting allergies be treated and prevented?
At least 50 to 100 people die each year in the United States from an insect allergy. The vast majority of these deaths could be prevented by appropriate preventive care by an allergist. Summer is a great time to be outdoors. But whether it’s playing on the lawn, taking a mountain hike, or spending time at the beach or swimming pool, summer activities can expose our skin to irritation. Insect bites, overexposure to the sun, poison ivy, and — even more dangerous — tick bites and yellow jacket stings can put a damper on warm-weather fun.
