Why is it important for muscle cells to contain lots of mitochondria?

0

Mitochondria convert the chemical energy in sugar to ATP which the actin-myosin need to contract. Without enough glucose, oxygen and the mitocondria to convert it to usable energy there can be no muscle contraction. Active muscle has many mitochondria so that the mucles appears darker.
