Why is it hard to install, customise and get started with Tomcat?
Tomcat is intended to be used by system administrators who run Web sites. Like almost all products of this kind, it is not felt necessary or even desirable to cocoon the administrator with expensively-produced, smooth, self-installing, self-customising wrappers and idiot-proof documentation. As you are very likely to take on system administrator duties in later jobs, it is good practice to experience some of the joys of the kind of detective work needed to survive this.
