Why is it hard to find planets farther away from suns?

Such planets are hard to find by the Doppler technique because their gravitational tugs are weak (because they are distant from their stars), so they will cause only weak wobbles. Furthermore, planets distant from their stars are hard to observe by the transit technique, because they are less likely to be seen crossing the face of their star if they have very large orbits.
