Why is it forbidden to eat pork, but not shellfish?

A LOT of Muslims say that shellfish are Haram (forbidden), but others say that it’s okay. It’s one of those grey areas that wasn’t really covered in the Qur’an, so you have to go by the Hadiths that were written afterwards, or the opinion of whichever Grand Scholar you follow. Most of the Islamic food laws are based on the old Jewish Kosher laws, most specifically, the technique for slaughtering animals. However, although a Muslim’s meat has to be “halal” (slaughtered according to Islamic law), they pretty much stop there. “Kosher” applies to everything, from meat to soda to Chocolate. Fish ends up being one of those grey areas, because it’s not considered “meat” and doesn’t have to be slaughtered any special way.
