Why is it called the Big Ben?
Big Ben actually refers to the bell in the tower and not the clock, as many people believe. It was installed in 1859. The bell was the largest in Britain at the time. It is not sure of the origins of name, though it is thought to have been after either Benjamin Hall, who was responsible for overseeing some of the work on the Houses of Parliament, or Benjamin Caunt, a well known boxer at that time.
