Why is it called Rebirthing?
It was named Rebirthing because through the use of the breath early rebirthers discovered the tremendous impact birth had on their lives. Rebirthing has since undergone many changes to become a more holistic process, addressing our entire life experience. The word Rebirthing means change. While rebirthing, (conscious connected breathing) you may remember things about your birth. from your experiences, you learn how decisions made at birth and in early childhood have affected your life and relationships. You receive tremendous value from discovering how current issues originated from these early decisions. Resolving issues from the past is a major value of rebirthing since we make some of our biggest pre-verbal decisions about life during this early period. However, the process is much more than that, it is a tool to discover and resolve limiting conditions. Rebirthers also like the name because it implies transformation or rejuvenation..
When the technique was rediscovered in the early 1970s it was thought necessary to relive your birth before the old patterns of tension and belief could be released. It is now known that this is not necessary, as patterns may not have been imprinted at birth. However the name has continued and because each breathing session is a symbolicopportunity to be reborn (change).
Moving backwards through the events of his past, the consciousness of the Rebirthing client eventually reaches the core experiences that formed the basis of his negative attitudes. For many, the experiences involved in getting born are arrived at, so the Rebirthing client re-experiences the actual circumstances of his birth. The effects of letting go these birth-associated tensions are so complete, compared to releases of later-developing tensions, that the term, “Rebirthing,” has been chosen to describe the entire healing process the connected breathing produces.
The name applies because frequently the source of our deepest blocks stem from the trauma we experienced at our birth. Most of us had a far from ideal birth experience. These experiences imprint our sub-conscious and leave us with an negative impression of life that carries over to today. The Rebirthing process is designed to release this birth trauma. Clients frequently also have recall of their birth and know exactly what happened and are able to release the emotions around this experience. Why do I need a Rebirther?
