As you know that sodium element is kept under unreacted surface of liquid like kerosene because when it get a little amount of water it react to give sodium hydroxide and this reaction is very active that make sodium get burn with flames … this little amount of water could be easily humidity from surrounding air . and as you know that in this reaction you mention 2Na + 2HCL —— 2NaCl + H2 hydrogen characteristics is a gas that when get burn it will easily explosive so you got two main problems , that while you use Sodium it could burn easily by absorbing water vapor in air and in presence of hydrogen woooow you got a great exploded reaction 🙂 .
