Why is ionic purity important?
Moisture from the environment or organic sources may extract chloride and other ionic species from the cured adhesive forming corrosive acids. Premature device failure may result due to degradation of vital device metallization. Cured adhesives are typically tested for extractable ions, such as chloride, sodium, and potassium. Current die attach applications require low ionic levels, typically less than 10 ppm.
