Why is Independence Blue Cross (IBC) discontinuing its traditional Blue Cross® Blue Shield® plans?
When the traditional plans were introduced many years ago, their benefits structure and costs were appropriate for that time. Since then, health care costs have continued to rise and our members’ needs and utilization of health care services have continued to increase. We believe that the traditional indemnity plans do not adequately meet the needs that many members may have today. With this in mind, IBC has decided to discontinue these older traditional plans and work with you to transition you to a guaranteed-issue Personal Choice PPO plan with updated benefits at a price comparable to your current plan.
