Why is important to approach thing with a scientific attitude?
Usually it’s important, it enables the individual to grasp concepts easier, and science allows those concepts to be understood better, allowing one to see more about something than someone who did not use a scientific attitude. Sometimes, however, science is not the answer – sometimes the only way to understand something is to work at it, and attain an understanding through blood and sweat.
Scientific attitude is an outgrowth of scientific method: 1. gather evidence–what are the FACTS that are proven, not preconceptions, biases or expectations. You have to be able to point at it and say “this is so.” 2. Try to formulate a statement that explains all the facts and you can state in a way that makes a WHOLE. THIS IS YOUR HYPOTHESIS. 3. TEST the hypothesis by experiment if possible; if not, can you think of a case in which your hypothesis is false, inadequate, or doesn’t apply? 4. Modify the hypothesis until it cannot be overturned–it now becomes a LAW. But it’s still provisional; it may need modification in the future. “Scientific attitude therefore 1.STICKS TO THE FACTS AND THE FACTS ONLY, and 2. It depends what you are approaching. If there is a problem and you are looking for a solution, using a scientific approach attempts to take emotion and bias out of the decision making process. Note that this approach does not work well for problems that are essentially emotional (e.g., relationships).
