Why is immaturity in men less tolerated than immaturity in women?
In patriarchal society, women are taught to let men think for them, to make all the important decisions, to be the dominate problem-solver and leader. Men in such societies expect women to be compliant and to behave like “pets”. Many men have profound emotional issues with women who are assertive and mature, such as women in positions of great competence, autonomy and leadership, and they reward women instead who behave immaturely, who give such men a sense of “superiority”, who know how to stroke a weak man’s ego. Men with these expectations of women to behave like little girls are usually very disturbed and frightened by maturity in a woman. Women learn to behave like little girls for such men, for their safety and survival and personal advantage. But, when such unsteady men are not around, women display more their true maturity to other women, certainly, and to more emotionally secure men.
