Why is Hong Kong launching Euro V diesel ahead of other countries?
We believe that the HKSAR Government is taking the lead in vigorously promoting environmental protection as an important social value. We have observed that Hong Kong Government has been very determined in recent years to introduce cleaner fuels (with the highest and most stringent specifications) in the local market in order to improve Hong Kongs air quality; examples include unleaded gasoline, Auto LPG, ULSD and now the Euro V diesel. The Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government has laid down the measure in his 2007-08 Policy Address, to encourage early adoption of Euro V diesel on the local market by further reducing the duty rate for Euro V diesel to HK$0.56 per litre, effective from December 1, 2007, for a period of two years.
