Why is homogenized milk actually heterogeneous?
Clever. It depends on your criteria. Before milk is homogenized it is a suspension of fat globules in a water-based colloid. After it is homogenized, it becomes colloid of fat globules and other substances in water. The difference is that the fat will no longer settle out. It is homogeneous because it now just milk instead of milk and cream. It is also heterogeneous if your minimum criteria for homogeneity is a solution. Keep in mind that pure water could also be considered heterogeneous because it contains both hydrogen and oxygen. It all depends on your criteria.
