Why is hockey popular in Canada?
Well, why is any sport popular in any country? I think it comes down to a few things: – It’s the sport that everyone learns to play here. If you’re young, and your friends are playing it, you want to play it. And, honestly, it’s a lot of fun as a kid! So, we Canadians pick up sticks and start playing at a very young age. It was simply the sport to play! Sure to play registered hockey is expensive, but there is always a game of street hockey going on somewhere near where you just need a pair of running shoes (sneakers, to y’all), and a hockey stick! – It’s on TV nationwide every Saturday night! That means, when you are young, and you are sitting around the house on the weekends with your parents, you watch hockey. So, we start to idolize teams and players in this sport at a very young age… because our parents watch it with us… – We are good at it! I mean, we are really good at it!
