Why is High Pressure tanning more expensive?
High Pressure tanning is more expensive than conventional tanning due to several factors. First, the High Pressure tanning beds are far more expensive for salons to purchase than regular, or low pressure beds. Ordinary beds range in cost from about $8000.00 to $15000.00. High Pressure units start at around $25000.00 and often cost over $50,000.00 depending on the quality of the bed. Also special electrical upgrades must be done to accommodate the extra power needed to operate the bed. If salon operators charged the average of $9.00 per tan (The same price for a normal bed) it would take a whopping 5500 tans just to cover the cost of the bed alone, not to mention electrical costs and replacement lamp costs (About $1800.00 every 3 months). These expenses are then averaged into a “Per Tan” cost for the salon. When you subtract the cost from the price paid for the session you see that salons only typically make about $10 to $15 profit per session. That may seem like a great profit margin b
